Congo River Expedition

• Day 1: Arrival in Goma

  Arrival at Goma International Airport, COVID test, greetings, then drive downtown for a briefing about the whole tour. Overnight at Serena Hotel (top range, double room, breakfast included, self-contained with hot shower and internet).

• Day 2: Goma – Kisangani

  After an early morning breakfast, drive back to the airport and take a shared domestic flight to Kisangani. On arrival, drive downtown and overnight at Le Chalet Hotel (mid-range, double room, breakfast included, self-contained with hot shower and internet). Note: No top-class hotel in Kisangani.

• Day 3: Kisangani

  After breakfast, spend the whole day in Kisangani, visiting Wagenia fishery to learn about the fishermen and their culture. Explore Kisangani's history, founded by Sir Henry Morton Stanley in 1877, and visit Tshopo River Falls and Wagenia Fisheries. Overnight at Le Chalet Hotel.

• Day 4 – 13: Congo River Navigation with a Speed Boat

  Begin the Congo River journey from Kisangani to Kinshasa. In villages, sleep in tents, while in cities (Bumba, Lisala, and Mbandaka), stay in hotels. Meals and cultural activities included. Visit colonial buildings and pass through various locations:

  • Mbandaka
  • Mabali
  • Tshumbiri

  Arrive in Kinshasa on Day 13, drive downtown, and overnight at Hotel du Fleuve (top range, double room, breakfast included, self-contained with hot shower and internet).

• Day 14: Kinshasa

  After breakfast, take a COVID test and explore Kinshasa. Visit the Museum, the tomb of Mzee Laurent Kabila (former president), and later in the afternoon, meet Les Sapeurs. Overnight at Hotel du Fleuve.

• Day 15: Kinshasa (Bonobos)

  After breakfast, visit Lola ya Bonobos Sanctuary, return to Kinshasa, collect COVID test results, visit the souvenir market, and overnight at Hotel du Fleuve.

• Day 16: Departure

  After breakfast, depending on flight schedule, drive to N'djili International Airport (Kinshasa) and take the flight home. End of trip.
