Volcano Adventure: 3 Days

Day 1: Arrival
Arrival at Kigali International Airport. After greetings, transfer to the Grande Barrière Rwanda-DRC border (3.5 hours). Meet our staff in Gisenyi for a warm welcome and assistance with check-in at your hotel. Afterward, attend a short briefing. Overnight in Gisenyi.

Day 2: Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking
After breakfast at your hotel in Gisenyi, ensure crossing the border at 7:00 am and check-in with the Virunga tourism office by 8:00 am at the Grande Barrière border post building. At 8:15 am, be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post, where the Nyiragongo volcano trek begins. Upon arrival at Kibati, guests will receive a briefing. The ascent starts around 10:00 am, and the climb typically takes 4-6 hours, depending on the group’s fitness. Most climbers reach the summit by 5:00 pm. While it is possible to climb and descend in one day, the majority opt to overnight at the summit to experience the best view of the world’s largest lava lake at night. Dinner and overnight in the basic shelter accommodations at the summit of Nyiragongo Volcano.

Day 3: Volcano Descent and Departure
After an early morning visit to the lava lake, enjoy breakfast at 7:00 am. Begin the descent and return to Kibati station. The average descent time is about 4 hours. Once at the base, be transferred back to the border and return to Rwanda. Continue your journey to Kigali International Airport for your departure.
